    Hello all,
I've been lurking for a while now watching with interest. I love the HD5 and also get along fine with SS3.1  . I have got the cracks between the navigation buttons and have contacted Sony by e-mail and phone. I've also contacted Comet. As yet I've either had no response or just a "we are not aware of this problem".
Anyway on to the point of this thread.
As the little carry bag is completely rubbish I would quite like a decent purpose designed case/carrier. Has anyone out there got any UK links?
I'm also keen on the car kit that has been seen on the japanese sites.
Has anyone got links to UK suppliers?

    Many thanks in advance.

On the phone they did not ask for my serial number all they did was deny that they knew of a problem. I still have not had a response to my email (sent 14/06/05) which included a link to the appropriate thread on here.

Seems the response you get on the 'phone varies massively depending on who answers it.

My advice is if you are not happy with the response you are getting from the person that answers insist upon escalation to their manager who will definitely be aware of this issue.

Best to insist they take your serial number too to register your unit with the problem. This would help you should any recall be announced.

    Good luck.

Will give them a little more time to respond to my e-mail first. If I get no joy then I'll ring again and ask to speak to the boss.

Sam just take it back to Comet and demand a refund or an exchange.

I've ordered the Silicon case from Porporta, it is white but IMHO gives a good balance between protection and access and is only £15.

I did have a look at the the Sony/Proporta alu/leather case (The sony one is the proporta one but around a fiver cheaper) but decided against it on grounds of side-protection, accessibility and bulk.

For more info on these cases, check here

Hrochnick - I think I'll send Detritus round with his siege crossbow :D

Wilto - Comet wanted to take it back for "testing" and would not direct exchange or refund without doing so first. They stated that they were unaware of any problem and had no communication with Sony concerning the problem. Needless to say it isn't going back to them just yet, especially as it's working fine apart from the cracks in the keys.

Bydandie - Cheers for that link. The silicone one is certainly new on me. Shame it looks as though someone want to try and make the sony look more like an Ipod

Yes I think I will get one too, but I might wait until some other colours become available. I mean I didn't get a black HD5 so that I can put a white case on it to make it look like an ipod! The pink one is NOT an option.

Can u please post some pics when you get your case?

I've messaged them asking if they plan to do colours other than white, and it seems a possibility though no definite plans or dates. Bydandie can you confirm if it also covers the buttons, or are these allowed 'through' the case? And is it completely white (solid) or can you see through it a bit? Hard to tell much from the rubbish pics on their site! :D

    Thanks in advance,

    Tom

I don't want to come over as brash and I know each to their own but why do you want to put this lovely "small" device in a bulky case, defeats the objust to me, might as well get a bigger cheaper player. Mind you I do put size top of my list when buying a "MP3" player. :)

    Hi,

The case is translucent silicon (Not soild white), covers the buttons and has a cutout for the screen. (Not problem to me as I have left the screen protector on)

Only adds a couple of mm to the size of the case and has an opening with a lip on the top of the case. In order to charge/transfer files via USB, you will have to remove the player from the case, but that's all.

Can you operate the buttons okay through the case?

Easily mate, you get a good feel for the buttons. Better than I was expecting. (PS use the discount code "Lifetime" for a 10% discount)

According to Amazon.co.uk, Sony are doing a clear silicon case for a tenner - nothing on sonystyle yet and no pictures, but interesting...
