Anyone else seen the beginning of this series yesterday on FX channel?
I thought it was very promising, one of the TV highlights of recent years.

its already been cancelled in the US I think, haven't got FX but I've seen the trailers and it seemed right up my alley. Hopefully another cable or terrestrial channel will show it too, strange it got cancelled as I've seen nothing but good feedback about it

I don't think it has been cancelled. A second series is in production.

if this gets cancelled there will surely someone will be ready to pick it up :lease: while there at it they should also get the rights to playmakers  that FX channel has some good stuff on it just lately, especially with the new king of the hill`s all being shown on it.at first i thought it was just another "filler" channel to up the number of channels that they could say was being introduced to sky customers and oh yeah we have bumped up your subscription again  lol.

I enjoyed Carnivale last night, thought at first it was gonna be a twin peaks rip off, but found it different and interesting. And yes, the FX channel has become one of the more watched channels in our household recently.

Also looking forward to Deadwood later this month. This was also well received stateside.

Really enjoyed it too...but it's been butchered to pieces. How hard can it be to show a programme in it's correct aspect ratio...? Even The Disney Channel does it occasionaly...

yes HBO wanted to cancel the show after the first season, but after huge responses from there customers (HBO = pay per view ) they apparently had a change of heart and it says on their website now that season 2 is in production. Also they are repeating season 1 at the moment in the US with (apparently) big success.

Hope the next episodes stay as interesting as the first two,
also looking forward to 'Deadwood', the clips look good.

yeah, i hate that.....I record numerous films to DVD and never keep them because of this, apart from the picture looking wrong when it get's inflated to full-screen, the picture quality sinks into abysmal on the most channels.

I feel i have to write some e-mails about leaving material in the original resolution.

I have seen the first two and it is a bit mental to say the least.

Not sure how many more I will watch.

Playmakers was cancelled after huge pressure from the NFL and its sponsors. It will not be returning.

Carnivale has to be one of the best series made on TV. Some people may find it slow going to start with - and the ambiguous nature of the show (just who is the "good guy" and who is the "bad guy?”), makes it intriguing and confusing but very watchable.

Note that the series has an overall story arc, so it needs to be watched as a whole. There is little in the way of standalone episodes. But it is certainly worth hanging in there and sticking with the show.

For those that find it slow, it takes about 6 eps to build the storyline up.

It also happens to have one of the greatest season finales ever...
