Hiya chaps, this is a problem i've let go on for far too long. Some times xp picks up my card drive (if that's what you call it) F G H I ect, then i might restart and they've gone. Done it again tonight, i might not see them for a few days then they just appear.

Any ideas what gremlins i might have?

    Cheers

From experience the only thing that can really be causing those sorts of problems is drivers... or a loose/bad connection/component. Obviously the first option is to try newest drivers and see if that fixes it... Otherwise there may be nothing for it except a new/different one...
    Sorry if it sounds pessimistic...

Thanks for the reply mate. It's done it really from brand new, it just fires up at will. I dont even know what brand the reader is. I've checked device manager, any idea where i can get new drivers?

    Cheers mate

Edit: carried out a scan on the above site, and this it what it came up with. Could any of the above be the problem.

You'll need to zoom in on the pic

it should have some model numbers on the bottom....

also if you get the pc to not detect it.... does replugging it in fix the problem?

If i set to "not detect" then add new hardware, could that sort it?

Mate i dont have a clue about pc's really. It's internal, i'd not know how to unplug it

Have i read you right?

with a lot of quinting i think it shows that there are quite a few old drivers on the system... they could interfere with each other so update the usb ones first.

technically they shouldnt need specific drivers but i know mine had some on win xp that i installed for the sake of it....

    what OS are you using?

oh rite its internal.... hmmm well you could try the site the pc was bought from - see if they have anything.

other than that id try the drivers on that driver HQ site, im sure one of those updates will fix it - fraid i cant really tell which one....

what i meant about the not detect thing, was if the pc doesnt find it when booting up. then try unplugging and replugging it. if it still doesnt show then im pretty sure its a hardware issue... Given its internal it makes this harder though. sorry about that

click on the download link next to the bad numbers 3 and 5. Thats the USB UHC and Audio controller. They both have links to the problem area so could help you...
