I'm looking for a good set of speakers (2 pairs of 5 1/4") to fit inside the front doors and rear sides of my car.
I was looking at the following brands..
    Alpine, Clarion and JBL.
    Any advice please?

Bought my 13cm JBLs 4 years ago an they rock. Very impressed with the adjustable directional tweeter. Loud as you like without distorting from my 50wpc JVC head unit.

Rather than looking at a particular brand, it may be better to consider the type and construction of speaker to suit your requirements and taste, i.e. co-axials or components and ribbon or metal domed tweeters.
Personally, i've found JBL tweeters (metal domed) to be very shrill and difficult to get along with, preferring speakers with silk dome tweeters. :)

Maybe you're right in that there are obviously lots of models available. My JBLs have directional silk domes.
