I was going to say it is not possible but a quick search on google suggested it is now...

I started looking for a component capture card to take an SD signal a year or two ago but nothing was available that really worked. I see now there are some HDMI capture cards but these are a couple of hundred quid.

If you just want to capture you should be ok. Problem is gaming is not really possible through a capture card due to the lag. This means that even with a HDMI capture card you are still going to need to split the HDMI signal with one lot going to the card and out to your TV

If you want to capture HD or SD component then the Hauppauge HD PVR is an option. It has an H264 hardware encoder - takes Component inputs and connected via USB2.

It also has loop-through - so you can see your game-play with no lag, but record it at the same time.
