    Hi,

I seem to be going round in circles trying to find the last component of my HTPC!

I want a card that will capture from S-Video using stereo audio. It does not need to have a TV tuner (but it's OK if it does), and it does not need to capture DV stuff.

It needs to be PCI, and price is not really an issue (well, I'd like it to be under £300). It must work with ShowShifter.

Please can anyone provide any suggestions?

    Regards,

    Nick.

try the Packard Bell PC TV 100, basically a re-badged lifeview 2000. £29.99 from PCworld (so a long way under £300!).

    It's not stereo.

I think you normally handle the audio capture through the soundcard.

Then there are lipsync issues, no?

    Nick.

Possibly depends on the latency of your kit. Don't know any other way of doing it though. Not any that are less susceptable to lipsync issues.

I was under the impression that most capture cards had audio in?

Some have RF inputs which give the potential to decode nicam in some instances but I'm pretty sure even these require an additional internal connection to the soundcard. I've seen one or two which have stereo phono inputs but again extra connection to soundcard required. The USB units may work differently.

Ah! I understand now. So although they have sound inputs, I still need to connect them to my card (Audigy2) to actually record it :)

    Thanks for clearing that up.

    Regards,

    Nick.

    Vidac VMagic from www.vidac.de
Does not work with Showshifter AFAIK, but captures s-video and stereo audio direct to MPEG1 / 2 in real time. The tuner version does not work properly in the UK (No sound). Has a timer / scheduler for recording and time shifting. Ideal for plugging Sky into it.
MPEG files can be burned straight to VCD SVCD or DVD

My HTPC has the VIDEOh! PCI capture card from adaptec

    ... http://www.adaptec-uk.com/

cost under £100 and does a good job. Not had any lip sync issues.

Would not advise use of the bundled MyDVD software for capture.

Instead download the Movie Mill software from Snazzi. It works with the Adaptec card, does a better job and is more flexible.
