    Hi guys

I posted this on the other forum but this seems to be a more relevant place.

Can someone with more knowledge than me tell me if this system has been superceded in recent years.

    Canton CD100 x4,
    Canton CD50 x1
    Canton 25 SC

It sounds ok to me, but then it may well be as that's all I am used to.

I am not an expert at all in AV surround, but obviously am keen to "match" the speakers to any amp that I might buy, but have no idea how "good" the speakers are relative to the current amps.

Apologies if this is a daft question!

Superseded by what? And relative to which amps?

I've never heard the speakers, they seem 'fine' on paper for a mid level AVR if that's what you're driving at?

Or, more importantly - if whatever AVR has good room correction, or your room is naturally good, then they could out perform better spec'ed speakers that don't have these things bolted on.

    Thanks Rock.

I don't really understand the specs and terminology - just didn't want to go out and buy a new AVR then find out that the speakers are rubbish and there has been no point in doing so.

Room isn't naturally good, well the layout isn't anyway, is room correction therefore vital?

The specs are largely irrelevant, but if say for example you buy a good AVR with good room correction, that will directly benefit the quality of speakers across the board and a good room will then allow you to distinguish between various components, budget permitting of course.

Yes, room correction is vital for good and bad rooms - when things are recorded, they are EQ'ed to iron out problems, then they're mixed to have more of this and less of that, then they're ultimately mastered to fit in with a variety of things from dynamic range to sounding good on most systems.

That final product is what you have to play on your system and you're trying to get as close to the master as possible, again this comes down to budget. i haven;t heard your speakers so I can't comment of how good they are in your room, on your current AVR without actually being there.

What AVR do you have now, what AVR do you want? Budget?

Currently have a Sony DNR 1040 and am thinking of spending around £500 +- £200.

Ok then, no that does not require a speaker upgrade at all.
