    All,

I visited my local AV shop at the weekend and had demos of the Canton Movie CD-1 (£500) and Definitive Technology (DefTech) Procinema 60 (£750) systems. I was fairly impressed with both technologies but I am struggling to find either information or online retailers that sell the stuff.

Obviously I would like to give my business to the guys who spent the best part of an hour with me on Saturday, but I would like to at least get some feedback from people with experience.

    Any help appreciated.

    Ta

    Nick.

Did you test the Canton with any music cd's? What did you think? Also, what amp/receiver were they using to demo them?
    Cheers,
    Jim;)

Yes, I listed to Stained (Rock), Dido and a couple more. The performance of both was excellent, probably the DefTech shading it slightly, but whether it justified 50% more cost is a big question mark.

The equipment was Arcam DVD and Arcam Receiver, which is not what I have, but I was limited to what the shop had available.

I have Denon Receiver and Yamaha DVD.

I had the Pro Cinema set up which I thought was excellent and it was replaced by speakers from the M&K Professional range which were considerably more expensive.

How are you getting on with your quest for the CD1. I am considering this package but have been alarmed by the lack of stockists. I have actually just sent an E-mail, in my best 'pigeon german' to two German online retailes that I found through kelkoo.de. I think they are made out there and are available for 400 euros, the equivalent of about 280 quid, a significant discount even when you ad in customs charges and delivery etc. I have asked them whether they deliver here and whether they will actually work in the Uk.

I'm feeling the same way. I think if my wife had the choice, she'd go for the looks of these. However, l know of no stockists that carry the Cantons here in N. Ireland for me to demo before buying - and I've only been able to find Home Cinema Heaven (link above) that sells them over the internet. Kinda off putting! :(

I have heard the cantons CD1 and they are great we might start stocking them in the new year but MS are very good with their Premeire marketing to the trade. best bet is too call standesign uk in Gosport or email them they might even sell directly to NI as there are no stockists! the next set up with floor standing rears are superb!!!

    Hi,

I went back to the shop and had a nother listen to both these packages, and to be honest the Definititive Technology products were better, even at the extra £200.

My brother-in-law also works for a small custom-installation AV company and he recommended (after I had already decided) that the DefTech's were better. I'm not disappointed so far.

If anyone would like details of the dealership I bought them from let me know. I was surprised how friendly they were, given that I was pretty small-fry compared to most of their customers.

    Nick.

    Ian,
Was that the Pro Cinema 60 you had? Would you compare it as better/worse than say the new KEF eggs?
    Cheers,
    Jim

I thought that the Def Tech Pro Cinema 80 that I had was excellent but unfortunately I have never managed to hear the new eggs but will rectify that at Bristol this February.
