Since i can get them at a good price I'm considerig them as an alternative to my option to Monitor Audio Silver speakers.

    What do you guys think?

Can they be a match to a Denon or Marantz receiver amplification?

    Thanx!

They seem to be very inefficient... 86db... 4...8Ohm... can a Marantz SR5400 handle them? And sonic matching?

Unless I'm mistaken your covering Three speaker Ranges from the Canton stable - which includes at first glance 35 models; I think you need to narrow down your choice a bit and consider which cabinets will work best in your room and within your budget.

Karat series is the one I may be interested...

    Denon AVR2105
    Marantz SR5500

Possibly after a stereo power amp for better stereo music.

    OK - start again!

What have you got? How much do you want to spend? and What are you trying to achieve?

    New system from start
Better musical quality, a step into AV world.
looking for an option to the MA silvers (cannot acomodate MA silver center).

I heard today the Karat s8dc with Marantz cd7300/pm17mkii KI they had in the room.
Loved the sound, 100% my type, great highs and mids, but the bass was not very controlled, I Think the room and placement was far from prefect.

    I'm interested in m30dc+m10+cm40 or m60dc+m10+cm40
Oh... the speakers are awesome looking!!! :D

the dealer promissed me a audition with m60dc+s1+cs40 with a Marntz sr5400 or 7400.

Ah you fell for that old trick - let you hear the good stuff first :)

Apart from the Canton Karat CS4 all of the Centre channels you've listed are roughly the same size (inc the MA Silver).

I find the quality of the Centre channel makes a big impact on TV and Movie viewing and under specifying this unit can be hazardous to your long term listening pleasure - unless you go with the more 'purist' HiFi approach and go very high end on the front L-R and not include a Centre.

Are these Marantz AV Receivers really that much of a step up in quality over your Denon AV Receiver - I would have thought you'd be looking to go a big step up in reproduction with an entry level Processor/Power Amp combination or to a much higher quality Integrated AV Receiver; especially so with some of the Karat speaker range.

I'd ask to audition the entry level Karat S Series with much higher quality electronics than your contemplating and pitch that against say the Karat M Series and the SR 7400 AV Receiver.

    Best regards

    Joe

I do not have a AV Receiver or AVsystem, "only" stereo.

I know the Karats are "better" than the sr5400 but I can get them at a good price and I want to later upgrade my system with a stereo power amp to improve stereo quality in front spekers (main concern).

I would buy the MA silvers if their center speaker could fit in my furniture, but it can't... and I can get the Karat's at about the same price as the Silver's.

Also I'm not looking for the top of the Karat range.

    What do you think?

    Hello Falp

Apologies! I though you said in an earlier post that you had a Denon AVR-2105!

Do either of the Marantz AV Receivers have a 'musical' pre amp stage!!!

It sounds like your pretty 'sold' on the Karat S Series and now its a matter of how to amplify and process Stereo and Multichannel audio for best reproduction.

I imagine that if you install an AV Receiver for now you'll want something much more up market in future - and finding a low cost processor that's good at AV and HiFi is not easy.

    Best regards

    Joe

    Mornin' :hiya:

I think the bass being a little uncontrolled might be an amalgamation of equipment and set up as I heard these with a Burmester Rondo set up (which I know is a little over kill) and the S8DC's sounded full, warm and articulate. When listening to John Lee Hooker (Chill Out - track 6: Tupelo) you can hear every vibration of the strings being plucked and him wheezing like he is there in front of you. Listening to Morcheeba (Who can you trust) The female vocals are so smooth and the bass is enveloping. I also had a pair for demo, playing off a £4000 Stereo T+A Valve amp and £1600 T+A CD player, listening to the HDCD version of Dire Straits (Private Investigations) was amazing for what is a very well priced speaker with detail and control you would expect from a pair of speakers twice the price and the finish of the cabinet is exceptional aswell

I was pretty decided on the MA Silvers S2+LCR+S1 but the center...

I'm lookin at other options and the price I can get the Karats made me think, and they are awesome looking and their sound is my type...

I would not hesitate if it wasn't their poor sensibility...

I could go up to a AVR2805 or SR7400/SR7500 if it was worth it... but I prefer (stereo) music and not extra features and I think a good 2ch power amp or 2 mono blocks could be a better match (Vincent SP996 for ex.).

    I can get:
    m30dc 718€
    m60dc 868€
    m10 438€
    cm40 279 €

This is cheaper than the MA silver except the fronts...
I like the M30dc for fronts (bookshelf)

I'd settle on your speaker set up - no mater what price you get them for if you don't like how they 'sound'; they are not a bargain!!!

I guess your in a win win situation as you like how they sound and you like the price :)

Once you have your ideal speakers you need to listen to the AV Receiver with additional amplification to the Front LR and see if it does it for you; keep in mind your still 'listening' to the pre amp in the AV Receiver even with added amplification.

    Best regards

I know the pre-amp thing... but it's the same problem in a upper class receiver...

I'm waiting for the other models to arrive and listening with a Marantz receiver.

If I like the result... it can only get better with a well matched outboard amp!

    Sorry...was this a question?

I know the AVReceivers with better amps and allrounder sound, but wich ones have better pre-amp? The same?

MA Silvers S1 (heard and loved ir with SR5400) but i have no room for Silver speakers centre size.

Canton Karat M60dc and S8dc line.
Heard them and loved it with the Sr7400, no problem or overheating at reference levels!
