Can anyone with Black Canton speakers, preferably CD 50's tell me what the finish is like? Are they matt? Gloss? Any close up pics of the side and front would really be appreciated.

I want them to go with my Pioneer plasma and want to know if they will look ok.

    Thanks,
    Kamaran

I'd recommend looking elsewhere if you want svelte, glossy speakers.

I was considering these myself at one point but thankfully I saw them first. I'd say their finish was a hurried and economical one...

Monitor Audio Radius or B&W HT look gorgeous in black.

    Hi

The CDseries is constructed from an aluminium extrusion. The original finish was a brushed satin finish in silver. Due to popular demand and the new plasma's at that time starting to arrive with a black surround, Canton started producing the CD100 series in black. This black finish is neither matt nor glossy, but is still in its brushed satin finish, with the drive units left in silver aluminium.
I am very surprised that anyone could ever say that the finish is "hurried and economical", when Canton pride themselves on the build quality of all there speakers and anyone who has ever used / had a CD50 will tell you that the build quality is excellent and 2nd to none.

    Regards

    JJ

Having recently purchased the Canton CD1 system (that consist of 4 sats-CD10's, sub and centre-CD20) i have to admit that the quality of the black speakers have an increadable finish and they go amazingly well with my new Samsung LCD.

Given time and funding i am going to replace my front sats with CD50's and use the sats in a 7.1 configuration.

I highly recommend the black finish especially if you are using them with anything else that has a black finish too (ie plamsa, LCD etc)!!!!

Jake and martin, thank you so much for your comments.

I repeat my original request and would be extremely grateful if someone could post some pics please (not from the Canton website).

    Thanks

If i can nab a digital camera from work for the day, i will see what i can do for ya. If anyone else can post in the mean time, please do so.

I understand your concern about buying blind, especially when the only person that has commented is Jake who sells the Canton range. But, i was in the same boat as you 2 months ago and after reading through the following thread 'http://www.avforums.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=146' i decided to buy them blind too. IMHO Absolutely no regrets, these speakers are top notch and are incredible value if you get them from the Power Buy section of this site from Jake (i'm not on commission, honest, just a satisfied customer!!)

Hope this has helped (or has it added to the headache!!!).

    martind,

no headaches, just help very very greatfully recieved. I plan to use 3 * black CD50's for centre and front speakers to go with my Pioneer 436-XDE plasma - just want to make sure it will all look ok given the kind of money I have spent! :(

If you could get those pics I will be indebted to you! :)

Canton pride themselves on the finish of the CDs?
Low standards then cos they look naff (all IMHO etc, naturally).

Jake, I note that you are not happy to put your money where your mouth is, as when I was considering the Cantons and inquiring about their looks, you said I shouldn't order them only to return if unhappy (even though this is contrary to your obligations as a distance seller). I should thank you for that anyway as it made me go and see them in the flesh, so you saved me the postage back :)

MA Radius is what you want kamaran, trust me. Better looks AND performance.

kamaran i have posted pics before i will see if i can dig up a link have you tried a search for "canton black"???

Superpixel i am dismayed at your comments about the finish of the canton speakers and especially the reference to the build quality the build quality is superb and as for the finish well the satin is great compliment to both the charcoal grey panasonic plasma panels and the gloss finish pioneers, not as glossy as the pio finish but that would be extreme for 5 speakers in most rooms.

Superpixel may i ask where you saw the canton CD50 in black? as if there is a dealer with them on display i am sure lots of folks would be happy to have have the chance to seem them before buying.....as for the Monitor Audio Radius http://www.monitoraudio.com/products/radius/ i have heard them on a few occaisions and they did not WOW me in fact the overtly square styling is terrible (IMO of course) i do feel if you wish to rubbish a product so many people are very happy with you could at least offer some more elegant reasoning than
come on what are we 12 years old in the play ground??????

Anyway back on topic there is a poor picture here http://www.canton.de/index.php?pg_id=15,30,cd50 but i will see if i can find some others....

its a satin finish half way between the two mate not matt, they are shiny but not a pioneer gloss the pioneer finish is plastic so gets a mucher deeper gloss than is possible with aluminium even B&O 6000 series speakers in black arent as glossy as the pioneer bezel..............and they are annodised

    kamaran,

Managed to get the photos for you, sorry they aint the best shots, but they were taken with a digital camera that normally blurs the image, these were the best 3 out of a total of 8 taken.

Good luck with whichever setup you go for and let us know what you decide on in the end and how they fair up. :smashin:

    Martin,

Thanks again mate - I really appreciate it. The speakers look nice and I have ordered:

    3 * CD50 (2 for front and 1 for centre)
    2* CD10 (for rear surround)
    1* AS60SC Subwoofer

    All in black ;)

These are getting supplied by www.bluestreamav.com who are also supplying, installing and setting up the following kit for me:

    Pioneer 436-XDE
    Pioneer VSX-1015-S Silver A/V reciever

Once again a massive thanks martin and hornydragon for your help :)
