    hi all,
this has finnally done my head in.
i cant seem to shut down on the first attempt,i'm just left with a haning screen with no desk top icons, just the white mouse pointer.
i restart via the reset button then once the pcs finnished loading,i can shut down as normal.
i have scanned for virus's and spy/adware,and run registry mechanic and cant find anything suspect.
have tried bringing up progs running screen and shutting down some programs before shutting down but still no joy.
think the only things i added lately are an archos driver for usb transfer to my mp3 player and a spyware stomp software trial?
have uninstalled the trial and cant find anything left behind so i'm now getting well hacked off and thinking of wiping my hard drive and starting again, upgrading to xp while i'm at.(i'm currently using win98se)
could do without spending the money at the mo so any suggestions would be most welcome.
    cheers

There is a patch for that on the MS website.

It appears its dissappeared from the MS website, but i think i have it, as i don't delete anything!

If you need it, i'll mail it to you.

    hi mjn,
i do update every now and then but if you've got the patch it would be worth a go.
can you just open it to install?

    'ello again,
went on microsoft update earlier and found the patch (i think)
would explain it as i since added 2 mp3 players that would be rearded as other drives.
anyway downloaded and installed and after a couple of restarts everything seems back to normal but you never know i might have to get back in touch.
many thanks mjn you've moved up to joint first on my crimbo card list
