Can't import AVCHD clips longer than 5 mins in FCP

I'm running Final Cut Pro 6.0.6 on an iMac 24 with my HMC152 (Aus version of HMC150).

My one and only problem is I get the dreaded red exclamation point when trying to import any clips longer than 5 mins.

I changed the prefs from ProRes to AIC with no luck and I have 2TB of disk space.

Any suggestions?

It's a bit long winded, but try this.
As imovie is full AVCHD compatible, you can import your clips to imovie, and save as FCP XML file via the share button.
