I have just set up the Yamaha DSP AX 620 amp with a Panasonic RV20 DVD player, connected by digital optical cable.

Amp is DTS compatible, DVD is DTS compatible. Dolby Digital is working like a wet dream but I can't for the life of me get DTS sound coming out (e.g. using Gladiator DVD, and choosing DTS from the input mode at the front of the amp I get nothing). .

Anyone with this amp had a similar problem?

have you checked the output from your DVD player's set-up menu

Set-up option "Digital Audio Output" and check that dts is set to on - judging from the PDF manual off is the "factory preset" - this needs to be changed to bitstream.

I know I definitely set up the digital output on the DVD to on, and PCM down conversion to YES (whatever in gods name that means) but I didn't know you could select DTS from within the software. I'll give it a go tonight.

Isn't DTS just a bag of ****e considering there only appears to be one DVD with DTS compatibility? (gladiator). Prove me wrong - any other decent films with DTS soundtracks....?

I stand erected! (although I did specify decent films so jingoistic Pearl Harbour and irritating Mummy returns don't count...)

PS: mjn - you were right - just needed to select DTS from the audio set-up options. Thanks a lot.

Just for fun (!) I went onto play's R2 homepage and entered DTS in the search box ... 78 titles.

    Dances With Wolves (R2)

I always go into the Audio set up whenever playing a DVD. I've known some to default to Dolby Pro-Logic.
Nowadays they usually default to DD5.1.

A friend of mine watched Predator (R1) in DPL without realising you had to manually change it to DD5.1 in the Audio set up.

He then watched it again straight after on the correct setting!

For me, the R1 DTS version of 'Saving Private Ryan', now very closely followed by 'The Fast & The Furious'.
