    I've got a toshiba 32wl56 and SD-350E player.

I've downloaded a few clips from M$ and burned them to a dvd and they won't play - they were asf format

so i re-jugged using divx converter and ended up with v small files but lost their resolution - down yto 7xx X 4xx and they were not v good.

so i downloaded the 3 sample files from divx.com and they won't play either.

    what am i doing wrong?

Well I would say your DVD player (like many) won't play .asf files nor does it play all the flavours of divx especially when their resolutions may play a part.

The only practical way to get HD into a display is via a HTPC (in one form or another) or a standalone unit which is networked to a PC.
The PC being capable of playing a multitude of file formats and resolutions unlike a DVD player which is severly limited.
