I have an ntl 250 modem and is connected to my laptop via usb and my ps3 via ethernet. When you choose betwwen wired and wireless connection it does that bit just fine until i end up at the ip address settings. I choose automatic bit it keeps saying failed. I have tried two diff ethernet cables but same thing happens. I'm getting perfect internet through my laptop.
Thankyou

I'm def not using crossover but not quite sure what you mean by patch? Ive just got the ethernet cable going straight from the modem into back of ps3.

I've got my PS3 connected to the net through my laptop.......The laptop is connected to the net through a USB modem. All I had to do was to run a crossover lead from the PS3 to the ethernet port on the laptop and then run the XP Network Wizard on the laptop......Once I had done that I just turned the PS3 on and it connected to the net strait away.......
Make sure you use a crossover lead though, as the one that comes with the PS3 is a Patch lead.............

I strongly suspect you can't plug them both in at the same time - NTL (Virgin??) won't give you two IP addresses.

You need to either have a router or use your laptop as one using internet connection sharing.

Thanks for that. I have noticed like you suggested that if I use my laptop im not able to use the ps3 after and vise versa. I have to reset the modem before I can you the other one. Where would I get a cross over lead from? are they expensive? Thanks...

Cheers Tony. After all that Im most likely to get a router soon anyway. Could you recommend one that can be used with ntl modem?

Something like the Linksys BEFSR41 (wired) or WRT54G (wireless) I'd guess (or equivalent dlink, netgear, etc.).
