Im also a bit stumped... The resolution on the Hitachi is 1024x1024 and the Samsung is 1024 x 768 which would mean that the Hitachi is the better choice because it can display a higher res.. However HD TV is 1280x720 and 1920x1080 so how the heck can both panels be HD ready if they dont support them resolutions.. sorry for the newbie questions!!

may help however the hitachi is older technology rehashed for HD (have a search for ALIS it has its draw backs) the samsung i have not seen so wont comment, however the rule with all fixed pixel devices is scaling will occour in order to map 1280x720 (or any opther res) onto the panels pixel structure, so having good scaling is more important than having lots of pixels..............

Really would like to get the panel on 0% interest free.. lets me spread it over 9 months... Electrical Discount UK dont offer that so was wondering if currys would let me price match and then do the 0% interest free... if push comes to shove, I will just whack it on my credit card...

Also anyone know if the panel can be wallmounted.. if so whats the best solution to do it..

Electrical discount seem to have better reports than prc direct(ie.if something goes wrong)
I got mine from Elec. discount and found them v. good to deal with and prompt delivery

So the general concensus is that the samsung would be better then the hitachi? because it's newer? I hear that samsung are better at LCD than plasma though..

Compare both.. Samsung has greater contrast and is a brand new model. Both look sexy, though the Samsung would be my choice

Someone on the LCD forum got Samsungs LE40R51BX LCD from them with next day delivery. He said they were very good.

I've had a look at the PS42S5H in two Currys stores now and one thing I noticed that, compared to the other sets around it, it seemed to have a slight greenish tint to the picture even in both stores. Definitely not as true, colour wise, as the Panny PV500s. I messed about with the 'My Colour' settings but it didn't really change it. Anyone else noticed this.

No greenish tinge on mine. There are effectively three sets of colour controls on the 5H, the mode control , the My Colour control (easy or detail) and the Colour Weakness Enhancement Feature. What did you play around with?

All three. Currys had created a special Samsung display area showcasing all the latest products including SP50L7HX DLP, LExxR51BX incl the 40" model and the PS42S5H and all the other panels displayed a much better colour representation than the plasma which had a greenish/yellowish hue to it.
