Hi guys,

Im trying to install a wireless router for my uncle, first we bought a belkin router, it setup easily. However when using a laptop with vista it did not hold a signal and kept dropping out but when using a laptop with XP is connected fine and stayed connected all be it a bit slow. So i took the router back and got another, this time a TP link router. However when trying to set it up and typing 192.128.1.1 into the web browser it says page cannot be displayed on both laptops. Its connected via ethernet and says it connected with limited connectivity and it just wont go onto the page so i can set it up.
Please help guys ive spent many hours trying to solve this problem.

I think Belkin routers use 192.168.2.1 as their default rather than 192.168.1.1

So my guess is that your laptop still has a 192.168.2.x address which is why it won't see the new router on 192.168.1.1 (assuming subnet mask of 255.255.255.0)

So check that you haven't set a fixed IP address, or try renewing your IP address on your laptop if it's set for DHCP.

thanks for your help.
Im sure its set at auto and dynamic.so it should work auto-mattically.And yeh belkins do use .1.2 so ill have to investigate further.

Drop into command prompt and type ipconfig /all, the numbers for default gateway are for the network address of your wireless router. Once you have these you will be able to navigate to the router via a web browser.
