So from what I can gather I am not going to find a miniDV cam that has 16x9 CCDs at all and these two Canon jobs appear to be the most reliable units when it comes to shooting in frames. And they make a better job of 16x9 than most.

Question is the XM1 a significant downgrade over the XL1?

I'm kind of keen on the XL1 as it offers interchangable lenses ( although pricey) and I'm hoping it'll see some discounting as there is a new model coming out with minimal advantages.

    Any thoughts?
