I bought a Canon from the US, but I bought a specific worldwide warranty. I got the Ixus 400. The Ixus series are called Powershot over there, otherwise identical. Charger works on all voltages but of course you'll need the 2-3 pin adapter, about $2 if I recall.

Not sure about the UK (I live in South Africa), but most manufacturers/agents seem to support the international warranty providing you buy the camera from an official dealer in the country you're visiting - no grey imports - and provide proof of customs payment on returning home. This is a bit of a minefield. I know a couple of people who bought in the USA assuming they'd just have to pay for servicing/repairs if anything went wrong, and the warranty wasn't recognised, but Canon & Nikon in SA won't even look at the camera. Maybe check with your local agents?

My understanding is that for cameras, Canon have regional warranties.

We are in the European region, US & Canada are in a different region, so you will have difficulty getting Canon UK to accept the US warranty.

A colleague of mine had the same problem with a Nikon D70 which Nikon UK refused to repair for free, as it was bought in the US.

For SLR lenses, the Canon warranty is worldwide.

Sorry, if I'd read the bit about a special worldwide warranty above I probably wouldn't have posted.
It might clarify the situation about standard warranties though.
