Canon or Nikon for macro photography?

I want to take up macro photography but haven't taken the plunge yet because I'm not sure about the camera. I have a personal affinity to Canon, but maybe Nikon is better in this arena?
What are the best cameras for macro that aren't outrageously expensive?

Realistically one’s not better than the other. Being pedantic Nikon have tended to have better noise handling for a given price which can make a difference due to the small apertures needed for Macro but it’s not worth worrying. Light and technique are want you want to concentrate on, as well as getting a suitable lens.
