I recently bought a Canon MV700 and the playback to the screen is fine, but when I capture via firewire to any PC program (tried premier 6.5 / pro/ sonic dvd / something else) the picture freezes every few seconds and it loses the connection. Sometimes it recovers by itself but more often I have to save the short clip as it is.

This happens in the middle of clips not at scene changes so it's not scene detection.

Any ideas on the liklehood of this ?

I have a AMD 2600, 512 MB RAM and capturing to a 200GB disk (with about 20gb free)

I previously captured Hi8 via a Belkin analogue - DV convertor external box to the same firewire port with no problems. (Hence the 180 Gb used ).
