Hi Just bought a Canon HF20 and I have a problem. I run a Macbook pro 10.5. When I plug the Canon into the mac via USB I cannot access the video files on the camera hard drive. I'm new to all this and rather hope I'm not doing something really simple.

When connected to the mac I get the Canon icon on my desktop, I open that icon and can view the still images taken by the HF20 but not the video files. I know they are on the harddrive because I can play them on the camera.

Please help and can you keep you explanation as simple as possible due to my ineptitude...........many thanks
Neil

Just read on the help section of imovie that it will only recognise HD cameras if they are connected via firewire.....my HF20 only has a USB connection.....any ideas?

Your camcorder is designed to connect using USB, and iMovie is trained to recognise USB camcorders like yours: the HF20 is compatible with iMovie as far as I know. Presumably you've checked the section in the instruction manual dealing with connecting to a computer, and you've set the camcorder to the appropriate setting.

You could try importing and then deleting (using the camcorder delete function) the stills first. I've heard this can confuse iMovie (in many cases it means iPhoto opens and asks if you wish to import the stills).

Let us know if that doesn't work.

By the way, what version of iMovie do you have?

Incidentally, the HF20 records to flash memory (either the built in flash memory or memory cards - your choice) and doesn't have a hard drive. :)

Hello
I have recently purchased CANON HF20 camcorder to capture the video and photos of my new born baby.

can you pls help if possible in regards to the following:
1. in auto mode , when i click the picture it is too much bright and the flash is too much that it really changes the face color.

2. There is a RESET button , how to use it , in which mode i.e photo mode , camera mode , Dual mode or in Viewing mode , to use it .
How long i need to press it . and will it give any indication on lcd screen when the RESET is pressed .
3. do u know how can we use the different modes like aperture and shutter mode .

Really need some help please.

Make sure your AC adapter is powered on and connected to the Cancorder for the USB to work properly.
This is also mentioned somewhere in the manual.
