    Hello All,

I am looking for a new camera and I have narrowed down the choice to a Canon Ixus 75 or 850 IS (has to be a Canon as the other half 'likes the way it looks!').

A quick look over the specs suggest that the main difference between the two is the type of lens and lack of a viewfinder on the cheaper (approx £30) Ixus 75.

Has anyone used one or both models? Should I save the cash and go for the Ixus 75? Please bear in mind that it will only really be used as a point and click camera.

Are there any other models in the same price range worth checking out?

    Thanks in advance.

    DeepS

I have the 850IS as a second camera, and it's great. Don't forget the IS (Image Stabilisation), which comes in handy for low-light shots, and the fact that it's wide end is 28mm equivalent, which makes it better for indoor and group shots.

    I'd say the 850 IS...

28mm vs 35mm at the wide end
    Image stabilisation
optical viewfinder for bright days when you can't see the screen

Thanks for the info. Looks like the Ixus 850 IS is the one to go for.

I had the same dilemma a few days ago and ended up going for the 75

Having had a look at the models in Jessops, the 850IS was slightly larger and I really just wanted a small, slim camera I could put in my pocket and forget about. The lack of image stabilisation is a downpoint of course, but as I'll be using it as a second camera to my Canon 350D with 28-135mm IS lens I wasn't sure that was a big problem.

Depends what you want it for I guess. The 850IS is a good price but if I was going for the IS feature and wanted a slightly larger compact camera (but still pretty small!), I'd have gone for the A710IS... that really is a steal at the moment
