    Hello,

I've been doing some research into getting a camera that i can film with. Mainly just videos for family days which i may share on youtube too.

Currently filming on my iphone 6+ but it's not really up to the standard i'm wanting. A lot of the footage is in lowish light, as a result the video is grainy.

After research the Canon G7X seems to be the perfect camera. Very good image quality for videos, however i can't seem to find it for sale new anymore... so i assume it's no longer sold.

Does this have a newer model under a new name or a good alternative?

its a great camera for Video (just be careful not to block the mic and have a spare battery)
I use it for family days too in a range of lighting conditions

I shoot in 1080p/60 and the quality is great (you'll need decent software to edit/join though) and still output at 1080p/60

sadly its end of life and the replacement camera is the Mark II
by all accounts is a evolutionary improvement

as for alternatives there are a lot from Panasonic and Sony you can research that all use the same 1" type sensor

but I personally found none combined the lens quality/range, touchscreen and ease of use

Sony RX100's are the obvious ones. We're still waiting on Nikon to bring out their DL's but no sign of them yet. Panasonic have brought out an interesting one, the TZ100. Same large (for a compact) sensor but with a much larger zoom at the sacrifice of aperture.

The G7x has been replaced as mentioned already, but there's plenty of used out there. I picked one up for under £300.

    What about the zs100/tz100?

I notice it has 4k, but no flip screen, which is a bit annoying but would prefer the better quality video.

Do you mean the one I mentioned above? ;) :p Definitely a contender, plus has a viewfinder albeit small.

Arg sorry, I read it as LX100 in your post! Too many model numbers in my head!

    Sorry about that.

I do like the tz100 but read the video stabilisation isn't great. But do like the way you can focus the image afterwards by tapping the image (essentially takes several pictures in different focuses).

So confusing about all of this. So many options out there, just when I think I've narrowed it down I then find something negative ie auto focus seems to be the biggest Issue in some of these.

I love the canon 70d but can't afford the body and then a lens.

    Arg!

Welcome to the wonderful world of photography, there's always a compromise to be made. No-one has yet made the perfect camera ;)

    This is true.

I think i'm going to go for the Panasonic G7 with the lens kit.

They have, it's like the terminators arm in a glass case somewhere, they move towards it in 12 month £200 increments
