Picked one up at my local Jessops on Saturday. They pricematched and I got it for £469.

Had a play and the images are exceptional for a compact. A smidgeon off 300D standard. Great for portability too!

Some of it. Thing is that the image quality on the G6 is pretty much as good.

Bit more portable than the D100 as well.

Hi Witters - I have been studying all the mags/imaging-resource.com/dpreview.com/ and still haven't taken the digital plunge although I am mighty tempted by the G6 - the last camera I bought (and still use) is a Canon AV1 SLR (c 1981) so I feel an affinity with Canon. What was the competition for this camera or did you buy on impulse?

The G6 a bridge between a compact and digital slr really. I almost bought the G6 but i'm going for the Canon 300D. I dont really think you could buy better then the G6 in its class at the moment, you'd have step up to a dslr to bettter it.

Thanks - I think will go and try out a G6. (I am trying to avoid the SLR route at the moment) although I am awaiting a review of the new 12X Panansonic FZ20.

p.s. I thought you were going to be in trouble if you upgraded
