    1. Having recently bought a Tamron 24-70 I am now selling all my EF-S lenses. I am going to go completely full frame and the 24-70 will serve my 7D until I save enough for a 5D MKIII

This is the last of my EF-S lenses

      Canon EF-S 15-85

This is probably the most versatile of my lenses with a better zoom range than any other EF-S standard zoom on the market and has IS as well. It is in truly excellent condition with an unmarked body, both end caps, a Canon hood and a Hoya UV filter fitted. Glass is unmarked and I cannot see many if any dust bunnies. At this moment I cannot find the box (I think I have it somewhere) so assume at present that it is sold without a box. I will update this thread if I find it. The AF works well even in low light and the lens gives nice sharp photos.

There are many reviews which extol the virtue of this lens and the following is an extract of the verdict of Camera Labs.
Canon EF-S 15-85mm IS USM final verdict

The EF-S 15-85mm IS USM is arguably Canon's best all-round general-purpose zoom for its range on cropped-frame EOS bodies. It delivers a compelling focal range with decent optical quality, quick and quiet focusing and Image Stabilisation."

Hi, just an enquiry at the moment…

Considering this lens as an upgrade to my kit lens and wonder if you would mind telling me:
    • How old is the lens?
    • Are you the first and only owner?
    • Where was it bought (i.e. UK or Grey?)
    • What is the likelihood of setting your hands on the box?
I am weighing this up against some faster constant f2.8 lenses, but may be interested.

    Hi there

I cannot swear to this information as it is what I was told by the previous owner. I was told that the lens was bought new by him in the UK around June 2012. I am the second owner. Because of the excellent state of the lens I am inclined to believe him but I honestly don't know.

As far as the box is concerned we moved not long ago and the loft room still has a lot of unopened boxes which we are still gradually unpacking. The box may be there but I cannot guarantee it. If I have not found it when it sells I would send it on to the buyer if it turns up later.

I am sorry this is not more precise but this is all I can tell you.

As far as your decision is concerned I had this and a Tamron 17-50 non VC. There was nothing to choose in IQ between the two. The Tamron was the faster lens and this one has IS and more reach. Because of the IS and the extra reach this one spent more time on the 7D than the Tamron. Because I used this most I sold the Tamron first.

Good luck with your decision - whatever you decide I am sure you will find it a significant improvement on your kit lens.

Thanks for the reply and the information, much appreciated. I am tempted, although I can get a brand new Sigma or Tamron 17-50 f2.8 for less, so I am totally undecided  (which I realise doesn't help you in the slightest!)

I am going on holiday on Saturday, by which time I want to have bought and received whatever I do end up buying, so whilst I can't make an offer tonight, if I am going to it will be in the next day or two. If you need to move this on sooner and archive the thread then I totally understand, but I will keep an eye out in case it's still here and is the one for me :)

    Cheers

Yes you can get a brand new Tamron or Sigma for less. The fact they are less new should tell you something about the relevant merits of the three lenses.;)

I shall be closing this thread tomorrow and moving it to Talk Photography. If you are interested though drop me a PM I can easily move it back.:)

No worries - I am on TP too, so if it is the one for me then I'll just make on offer over there
