It seems there is a leaked pdf file with details of the new Canon 5D 12.8 Mp full frame DSLR (which is not EF-S compatible). The specs are in English below a Spanish heading.

Looks nice but if the price I've seen mentioned of 3500 euros plus is right I think I'll be keeping the 20D.

Seems most people think its genuine others think the info is fake. Something to look at anyway. Bit quiet round here lately :)

    Not EF-S?

    That seems an odd decision...

Really? I'd have thought the fact that it is full frame would automatically have ruled EF-S out and I know for certain that if I could afford one a full frame camera is much more appealing....

Is this definitely confirmed.. I'm hugely sceptical - Konica Minolta already have a model called 5D as well....

well...i posted a thread on this myself on my forum, im undecided! Konica/Minolta own the 5D brandname, so thats dodgy straight away! would be a good thing to have another canon in the range, would push the 20d down in price a little!

Odd in that it means a whole new investment for EF-S owners, but that's not unknown for Canon I guess.

But like you, I'd love a full-frame sensor.

    3fps though - that's a bit low for this price-point.

But everyone has always known that EF-S was potentially a quick fix and not the route to go if planning a future upgrade....did Canon not even admit this themselves at one stage?

Admittedly 3fps isn't that great (comapred to the 5fps the Nikon D2X can perform), however a 60 shot limit is better than other cameras out there...

    cant the 20d do 5fps?

looks nice to me. and its full frame which is great

on the EF-S lenses, theres only a few of these anyway and they seem to be pretty **** compared to the other canon glass, so not exactly an investment.

id buy one if i was looking for an upgrade, however surely the advantages of the 1ds mk2 would overweigh anyone actually upgrading from a 20d and the like

like young jones says, the EF-S lenses are not exactly pro level glass which is what I would have thought the buyer of the 5D would be wanting.

Got to love that big LCD display on it... am quite jealous.

after some consideration i cant really see there being a market for this...

at the end of the day if i was to upgrade from my 20d id want something that was an all round upgrade,

ovet the 20D this camera has-

    full fram sensor - yes
    more megapixels - yes
    faster FPS - no
    more AF points - no
    i could go on

it fills a niche in the middle of the 20D and the 1D

however if i was looking for an upgrade id have o bite the bullet and get a 1Ds mk11.

Remember the slower FPS is with shots that are 50% bigger than your 20D - perhaps the 5D would perform like the D2X whereby you get quicker FPS by using smaller image sizes...

Doubt it's meant to be an upgrade to a 20D....

canon dslr have a crop factor of 1.6, so 35mm shot on a digital is actually cropped so it looks 1.6x closer than an SLR, see?

A full frame is the size of the exposed negative in a film SLR camera. Making a sensor that big is expensive so all but the high end DSLRs have a smaller sensor.

enlarge a 20D's sensor 1.6x and you have a full frame. As the sensor only gets part of the lenses full projected image it is referred to as a 'crop factor' - not an enlargement... a bit chopped from the middle of a full frame.

the canon one varies with different models, IIRC the 1D is 1.5x, the 20D is 1.6, the IDs however is full frame.

faster frame rate the smaller your images are? doesnt that kinda of defeat the object of having a camera that will give that quality?

The 1DII is 1.3, the 1DsII is full frame, and the 20D is 1.6.

And that's in Europe, which of cause where part of until it comes to prices. You can expect at least another £500 on top of that. Anyone have three grand to spare. Welcome to rip off Briton.

    Arrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrgh.....WANT.. :D

The biggest surprise of the day (not) will be Canon's much-leaked EOS 5D. Yes, the specifications floating around for the last two weeks were accurate, this camera slots in above the EOS 20D but below the EOS-1D series with its full-frame (35 mm negative size) 12.8 megapixel CMOS sensor. Other key specifications; 3.0 fps continuous shooting, Spot metering, Custom settings mode, Picture Style parameters, 2.5" wide viewing angle LCD monitor, marginally larger than the EOS 20D, USB 2.0 High-speed, compatible with WFT-E1 wireless transmitter. The EOS 5D is certainly unique and will no doubt be of great interest to a great variety of photographers. The EOS 5D will be priced at $3299 (US) / €3459 (EU).

Some comments about the 5D here from one of our forum members blog pages.

Comments such as 'I've seen sample images taken with the 5D up to 1600 asa and I can say they look almost indistinguishable from my 1DSmk2' are good news !

(Dan is the guy 'loaded up' in the picture at the bottom of the page)

I want a 5D, not sure if it is worth the money or not for me though really.

    Mark.
