hi guys. yet another question about my new camera, Are the older EZ series flashguns like the 540ez flashgun compatible withe the 350d and capable of high speed flash sync?, there seem to be plenty of them around used but I cant figure out if they are fully compatible or not, or do i have to get one of the newer EX series flashguns for full compatability. anyone with a 350d own an external flashun?, your experienced opinion would be welcome.cheers Mike

As far as I know the 540EZ will not work properly as the newer range of EOS don't support TTL metering (only E-TTL), you should be able to use it manually though.

You need an ex mike, the EZ was not designed for eos digital cameras and why even if you could, (which you can't) would you want to miss out on E-TLL ll of the 580;)

Jamie has one (mr jones). If you'd like more advice go here http://photography-on-the.net/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=35

"All current Canon digital cameras with hotshoes - both the interchangeable-lens SLR cameras and the point and shoot digital cameras - support E-TTL (or both E-TTL and E-TTL II) and do not support either TTL or A-TTL. Even Canon digital cameras with internal popup flashes are E-TTL only. This means that only Canon EX flash units or third-party flash units with E-TTL support can be used with Canon’s current lineup of digital cameras. Older E and EZ flash units will not work correctly - no automatic through the lens metering is possible. You can get manual-capable EZ flash units like the 540EZ to fire in manual flash mode but this requires external flash metering."

Hi Mike, yes it does. Have a look at page 100 of your instruction manual.

P:S got the bge3 grip today and it makes the camera feel so much more comfortable even while using in normal mode horizontally

just to let peeps know I managed to price match a BG-E3 for £89.99 from £129.99 at Jessops by printing out from Fotosense - get yours now!

PS - they wouldnt accept my NUS card - although it may be just dependent on branches and not available on price matching but was worth a try...
