Earlier in the year I bought a Fuji S7000 - and have now got the photography bug

I feel I have learnt quite a bit from the S7000 but have got the urge to make the leap to a DSLR.

I had a look at the 350D but it felt very uncomfortable in my hands, so am considering the 20D - is this a wise choice or should I be looking at a Nikon D70 perhaps?

Any advice would be much appreciated - I'm reckon I am about to enter a whole new world of photography!!!

    Thanks in advance....

I think you are about to put the cat among the pigeons :)

It's a choice you have to make for yourself. I have a 20D so I am biased to thinking it is a pretty good camera. The Nikon owners will be along shortly :)

There will be loads of stuff on the net to read with pros and cons for all of them. In the end it comes down to what feels right for you.

    What Robert said, basically.

All three you mention are excellent - it's which one feels right for you.

When and if my 300D expires...(12000 clicks and counting).. ;)

The 20D is top of my list. And I agree, the 350D is just too small...well for me anyway..

Trouble is that DSLR's have gone the route of computers....out of date every 10 to 12 months..

You pays yer money and takes yer choice, yesterdays tech will be cheeper (300D)....current will be full price (20D).

Now, when Canon announce the next job..a 18 megapixel 25D maybe.. :smashin: , the 20D will half in price overnight.

    ps. What's a Nikon...

20D has never been the 300D, 20D was the 10D replacement!

i know folks who use 10D brilliantly.

as john says they are moving rapidly, not as fast as PC but still, the 20D's replacement (in the next 12 months i presume) will be astouding, i'd expect atleast 12MP etc. its gonna be amazing, welcome to technology :D

I don't think he was implying that... just that the 300D (his camera) is alot cheaper now it's been superseeded, and that the 20D is still pretty much holding it's RRP as it's a current model.

...or at least I think that's what he mean't :D

    Regards,
    Iain.

ok - been and handled the D70s, the 350d and the 20d at Jessops and think I am sold on the idea of the 20d

Anyone know where the best place to buy is? The best deal I can find is with www.internetcamerasdirect.co.uk - there are doing the EOS 20D + EF-S 18-55 mm kit for £888....

    Thanks

Well Jessops are advertising that they won't be beaten on price, so give it a go and see if they'll price match it.

    Hi Mark

I have a 350D and a pair of big hands so I bought the BGE3 battery grip, plus an extra battery. Really improves the feel/handling of the camera. Feels so much better in the portrait position. The extra battery life should be a bonus+the option to run on AA's if needs be. Dont know how the weight of the 350D+BGE3 compares to the D20 maybe still a little lighter.

Ok well you might find this interesting. In this months issue of Digital Photo magazine Jessops have a full page advert stating "Jessops is proud to be unbeatable on price, and to prove it, we will beat any hardware price listed in this magazine." And they go on to say they'll give you 110% of the difference. Now unfortunately Internet cameras direct don't have an advert in this months issue. But Dabs .com do have an advert in, and although it has to be a print error they have the 20D kit listed for............... are you ready! £629.80 including vat.

I think it is a mistake, on there site it is listed for £1113 but the 350D kit is listed at that exact price you said for the 20d kit.

I know mate, they've been advertising that (on and off) for a while now, that's why I was so annoyed  But I needed the camera quickly as I had a trip comming up so instead of arguing it out with them (more than I allready did!!) I took my money elsewhere...

...to these guys if anyone's interested (good prices on the 350D, even better service :smashin: ) http://www.ajelectronics.co.uk/ViewProdDetails.asp?prod_code=EOS-350D Lens Kit

    Regards,
    Iain.

Looks like internetcamerasdirect are the best deal for the kit then - £888

Might go for that - anyone any experience dealing with them?

It would be interesting to find out how Jessops stand legally on the advert in the magazine. As I said I know it's a print error in the Dabs .com ad, but if Jessops are claiming "they'll beat any hardware price LISTED in this magazine" wouldn't they have to honour it?
