i have the following setup :

    DVDR AV1 to TV AV1
    DVDR AV1 - RGB
    DVDR AV2 - RGB
    AV2 connection - Normal

Sky+ TV out to DVDR AV2
    Sky+ VCR to VCR

i have problems recording a video tape to dvdr, as i appear to be recording a tv station instead !. All scarts are 21 pin connected and i can record Sky+ progs/HDD to DVDR. The picture settings, while attempting to record to VCR are -

    DVDR AV1 - RGB
    DVDR AV2 - VIDEO
    AV2 connection - Normal

    Sky+ - PAL output

    DVDR (pannyE50) - uses AV 2
    VCR (pannyV752) - uses AV 2

    any ideas, cheers

Seems that your SKY box is sitting between your VCR and your E50. If, so then at least make sure SKY box is powered off when sending from VCR to E50.

Also, try the SCART control option on the SKY box, under Picture settings menu

    Mmmmmmmmmmmmmm, c o m p o s i t e, mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm!

So sorry, pls forgive my childish homer simpson mind. The sky output signal should be set to RGB, you do not want PAL its useless.

Scart control allows the RGB signal to reach your TV even if the E50, which is on the path to the TV is switched off, I think!

Pls tell us what is the chain structure including scart connections from the 1st device all the way to the TV. I suggest that if you do not have any use for the VCR except to copy to DVD then the VCR should not have a direct link to or from the SKY box, further, the Sky box should feed straight out of its "TV" scart to the AV2 scart on the E50. To tell the E50 to record from the VCR may be you should send the VCR signal to the E50 AV4 (input) terminals, you can do this with a directional scart to RCA cable, they cost around £10.00.

    chain structure is as follows

Tv (e2 pal) to vcr (tv out), vcr (sat out)to sky+ (VCR in),
sky+ (tv out)to DVDR (A2 in), Tv (e1 RBG) to DVDR (A1 out),
so there are 2 outputs to the tv

    mmmmmmm.....checked vcr manual

a1 of video is IN only (back to sky+.......this is the weakest link!!!!!!!)
a2 of video OUT/IN (used for viewing on tv)

a switch may have to be involved somewhere 9(at dvdr using scart from vcr a2 and sky+ ???)

the following works with current set up:
    play video
    dvdr record of Sky+ channel
    dvdr record of Sky+ HDD
