Cannot FTP Freeserve

Active Member
I can no longer connect to my Orange (ex-Freeserve) webspace by FTP client any more. I think it has not worked since I replaced my previous router with an Orange Livebox.
The FTP client's setting have not changed since it last worked.

As per other solutions on the internet, I have disabled the Livebox's firewall, but Orange still refuses to send me my webspace listing.

My webspace was not created using Orange's SiteBuilder. It was generated locally offline, then squirted up via FTP.

Any other suggested solutions?

Does the web site still work?

do you get a username/password prompt when you try to connect?
do you get an error code response from the ftp server?
have you tried using a dos prompt/web browser/different ftp client?

I'm connecting using Filezilla, but whatever FTP client I use, it seems to make the connection, but then fails to receive a directory listing of my webspace.
There are no password/username errors being flagged, and there shouldn't be as I've not changed these at all.

Web browsers can access all my website without difficulty.

The console dump from Filezilla follows:

Command: SYST
Response: 215 UNIX Type: L8
Command: FEAT
Response: 500 Unknown command
Status: Connected
Status: Retrieving directory listing...
Command: PWD
Response: 257 "/"
Command: TYPE I
Response: 200 TYPE is now 8-bit binary
Command: PASV
Error: Connection timed out
Error: Failed to retrieve directory listing

Like I said before, the above used to work fine. I've not fiddled with any settings, which leads me to conclude Orange have altered something.

try it without passive (pasv) enabled or it'll use more ports than just 21, and they might not be open on the new router. The firewall won't necessarily matter, the ports need to be forwarded too unless it supports upnp and actually implements it successfully which many routers don't.
