    Hi Guys,

I cannot decide which dvd player to get. Some help would be great.

    Pioneer 868
    Pioneer 668
    Tosh 900
    Denon 2900
    Myryad Z122

Then I was actually thinking I could by the Myryad ( purely for the picture ) and then buy a Pioneer 565 for the audio, so I can play both SACD and DVD AUDIO.

Is this a good idea ? Oh should I just go with a top of the range that soes everything?

Anyone actually know if the bits inside my Yoshiba 42wh36 are any good at PAL Progressive ? I mean I currently have a Sony 730 dvd and NTSC porg scan is pretty good, but the PAL is a bit crap too be honest, looks very flickery to me. Is this due to the tv or the dvd player ? Hence the reason I want to buy a more expensive dvd player!

    Hope that makes sense.

    Thanks in advance

have you considered HK DVD2550??? If TV is PAL prog worth a look, Excellent CD replay and PAL + NTSC prog Scan. DVD30 is DVD-A compatible.

Knowing not much about them I could be wrong but from what I've read the 868 is only really worth the high price if you're wanting to use the HDMI output which of course you're not, the 668 seems to be pretty much the same for practical purposes otherwise I'd have thought.

I think on balance the 668 is better if you want multi-region, otherwise the Denon it perhas to be preferred, many people have problems with multi-regioned 2900s as evidenced by posts around here.

thanks for the advice guys. Yeh i'm pretty turned off by the amount of problems that Denon owners seem to have with there machines once they have been multiregioned etc. And to be honest i'm not much of a fan.

I am hoping to buy a player which is quite future proof. That was why I thought that the Pioneer 868 was a good buy. But the 668 is around the price that i really want to pay, maybe a bit more.

On the other Comment about the HK dvd player, I was under the impression that the above must have a better picture than the HK ? I'm probably wrong but for the price difference i would want there to be a big difference.

Will I see a better picture by junking my barely 2 week old Sony 730 out of the window and replacing with 1 of the above? I'm impressed with the Sony's NTSC prog scan, but I'm not happy with the PAL prog scan.

Or is it my tv (tos 42wh36 ) that is making the PAL prog scan look crap ?

    Cheers

might be the TV mate not all early ones like PAL PS is it possible to run the sony PS for NTSC and interlaced for PAL? What is APL interlaced PQ like?
HK should be £350 and is one hell of a player!!!!
Quality is far above that of other £250 players and I reckon Head to head with the denon it would be very close call on all but the most revealing display.

Yeh the interlaced picture on the Sony is pretty good, better than the progressive pal I would most defo say.

Might go and check out the HK. I was actually going to get one of them a while back but was put off buy the black colour, and also heard that it suffered with NTSC Judder ? dunno who true it was but nevertheless it put me off.

its the 50th anniversary maodel, not played with one personally but it should be up to DVD25 quality, for some reason they have changed the Dacs from Wolfson to Burr-Brown IIRC (could be other way)
