I currently have the minimum package that gives me access to sky plus (36.78/month) and I have had this for around 2 years. Does anyone know:

    1) What the easiest way to cancel sky (there hold time is 30 mins at the moment).
    2) What do I need to do to continue to receive just the free-to-air channels including ITV / E4 / Film 4 etc ?

    Thanks!

    Mark.

    A couple of things:

1/ Not all channels on the Digital Terrestrial 'Freeview' platform are Free to Air or Free to View on satellite.

2/ Free to air means you just need a dish and any old digibox to view, Free to view means your digibox must support encryption and have a card. A Sky box and card with no sub will give you all the channels listed on:

    www.freesatfromsky.co.uk

If you cancel Sky, I don't think you need to do anything else to get Freesat from Sky.

:D The easiest way (and not be on hold for 30mins) is to stop your direct debit payments to Sky - they will then cancel your account for you. lol!

ok thanks - I ended up waiting for 30 minutes and managed to get it cancelled.

They did offer it for me for half price for 6 months but not interested !

You may find you card still gives you C4 & C5. If not you'll need to buy a freesat card.

BBC channels & ITV will still be there regardless of card in or out. Last week that I looked Film4 was FTA.

    Hi,

I want to cancel my Sky Digital subscription too, but does anyone know if Sky ask for the digibox back when you do this, or do they not bother?
    cheers,

    Kevin

As long as you're not under an initial contract with them i.e. a 12 month contract following a subsidised install then the box is yours, they won't want it back.

thanks, that was the answer I was looking for :) I've had the subs for almost 2 years, so I guess that should be OK. All I need to do now is find out more about freesat.

    NO NO NO

Very risky advise indeed. That way can put you on the bad credit risk lists if you do not notify Sky of your cancellation so as they cancel your subscription card 30 days (or so) later and not provide you with an unpaid service - they will not cancel your service immediately for non-payment unless you have a bad payment record). Sky have been known to put people on the bad credit list up to a couple of years later because of this sort of action.

The easiest safe way without holding on the phone is to put it in writing in a letter or email:
