I have been e-mailing DVD Soon for months to cancel my order for the Indiana Jones Box Set, as I did not want a bilingual cover, as one would now assume to come with Paramount releases. They finally replied today, to the last e-mail I sent yesterday, asking me if I was sure I wanted to cancel. Here is a quote from part of the e-mail:

So there you go! It seems that the Canadian version will not be bilingual, and as it's only about £26, with no customs worries, DVD Soon could be the place to go.

If you'd have bothered to look at all the search results, you would have seen that there are 4 releases in Canada. One widescreen and one full screen, and both versions come with either French language packaging or not. So yes, we have known this since they put it up for pre-order ;)

[{EDIT} No I can't link to the thread called dvd soon orders?]

It was Simon6776's comment that started the questions.

    What is the big deal?

When my TV arrived a while ago, it had had a load of Japanese writing on it next to the English, but I was relieved to find that it didn't dub Eastenders over with Japanese twang. And my Connect 4 game, well there's twelve different languages on that thing! You still have to get 4 in a row to win though. And the bloody Arabic writing on them Mars Bars and the cokes my local takeaway sells... well still a Mars Bar and a coke after all that.

Watch the film and stop looking at the packaging. You're not using the inserts as wall hangings are ya?

Why is it whenever someone says that they don't like French writing on their DVDs people start queueing up to flame them? Why can't you just accept that that's their choice? It is getting really tiresome.

Ironically when someone writes that they don't like the French - people start queueing up to agree with them!

Who am I flaming? Is anyone going to explain to me what the huge deal is or what? Sure it's down to personal preference and choice, but it's so insignificant why waste so much energy - in amounts that could replace that which is needlessly wasted by all those people on this forum leaving their equipment on all the time - by getting so worked up over it?

    I'd also oppose racism.

If it is acceptable for people to whinge about French writing over and over again, then surely it is acceptable for those people who have a life, to point out how pathetic it is.

You have answered your own question. :)

This illustrates my point perfectly... why do people go out of their way to be offensive to people who are expressing a personal preference.

It's like going on a car forum and posting that people who don't like their cars a certain colour need to get a life.

I don't care if it has Japanese writing, French writing, German writing or whatever on it as long as it looks as good as it can and sounds as good as it can i'll buy it, the language the writing on the packaging is in makes no difference to me.

why do all these threads have to go this way??
At the end of the day there is a choice, and people can make either. surely one`s decision is just as valid as the other`s???

If people care what their discs look like from the outside then fair enough, if they don`t fair enough.

as long as they go for best quality then it should be fine (ie not being so stupid as to say: yes the french set has DTS and more extras and better picture and all but I won`t buy coz it`s got french writing on it)

as for US vs Can sometimes I care, sometimes I don`t.
(I care when they mess it up like mosnters inc)

Yes, it is exactly like that, only I am not a member of a car forum. What is your point?

I started this thread not to create an argument about French covers, but merely to offer some information which I thought might have been of interest. Sorry I bothered.

My point is that you are being offensive - if you have nothing constructive to say, then don't say anything.

I am glad that you consider yourself the arbiter of what is offensive and what is constructive. I would never be so arrogant.

dougie to be fair you accused those who worry about the writing on the covers as having no life:
Now even though some of us make fun about having no life except for DVD for most of us (even those who chose US discs instead of canadian discs) it is just making fun and not really true.

at the end of the day if they don't want french writing on their covers then that's fair enough.

I don't mind french as such (hell I live close to them and half of my discs come from france) the point being that often they try to squash french and english on the spine and cover and it looks stupid.
some of us also buy a different region (when the discs are the same) because one region/location has a nicer cover. and as long as they are prepared to spend their money it's fine. it's not like you suffer from it.
I'm sure you have your little ticks as well, so please don't "flame" the others for theirs.

    BTW:

the R1 will be out on october21 2 weeks earlier then expected

 erm, yes, that's why I am a moderator! You really are missing the point here - how hard do I need to ram it home? The idea of having moderators is to help maintain a civilised level of discussion - telling people to "get a life", on a DVD forum because they are particular about their DVDs, falls below that level and is unacceptable. Consider youreslf warned.

I did not tell anybody to "get a life". As a moderator you ought to read posts before quoting them incorrectly.

How else could that statement possibly be interpreted?

    End of discussion.
