First time buyer.. - my requirements are:

    Flash
    Radio
    1Gb at least
    Decent sound quality
    Small

I'm very tempted by the Sony NW-E507, although I would prefer something which acts more like a flash drive so I haven't got to mess around too much with SS.. - plus i'll be connecting the player to various pc's....

    Any help much appreciated

It's not a flash drive and I can't advise you what to buy but I will tell you to avoid the MPman HD2. I have one and this weekend I brought a Sony HD5 because the HD2 is a complete pile of pooh.

I had problems with it, email MPman and never got a response etc.

Thanks very much for the links sirlukas - gonna have a good read of them now... - much appreaciated.

Budget.... - hmmm - well, cheap as possible as long as my needs are met (!), i'll probably spend £20/£30 on earphones on top, so say... - er £170, all in - max.

Wow - well, they all look pretty good actually. I look of both the iRiver iFP-899 & iAudio ones.... - I quite like this feature too... "Sound Effects, 5 Band EQ, BBE, Mach3Bass, MP Enhance, 3D Surround and Pan"...

i'll carry on researching these via reviews etc tomorrow - my bed is calling right now.. -cheers again

Right, i've decided on this one

iAudioU2 - 1GB (Black) - I want to get one of those funky little protective cases, but there doesn't seem to be many stockists of this product in the UK...

I think you misread the poster's requirements. He/She wants a flash player with an FM tuner - apart from play tracks in everything but the order you want it, the Shuffle can't do jack ****. Since those crappy toe straightners you can pick from those horrid Innovation magazines, the iPod shuffle must be THE most useless piece of white plastic within the realms of planet Earth...

The smallest will be a Mobiblu DAH-1500. It has an FM tuner, and is less than an inch cubed. Slightly swkward size for pocketing but good size for wearing. It's USB Mass Storage so loads without other software. I had one and it was a fun piece of kit.

There is an updated 1500i version which has yet to make it's way over to these shores if I'm not mistaken. It has USB2.0 transfer instead of USB1 like the Sony's. (And in fact, even the non-i Mobiblu is just a bit faster than the Sony's to transfer) The USB1 version is £130 from advancedMP3players.

    HAVE YOU TRIED ONE?

Apart the FM tuner and screen what's missing?

Bells, whistles, and a Christmas tree?

Cheers for everyone's help and suggestions.

I checkout the Mobiblu, and was tempted, although the shape for some reason put me off a little! Almost too small to be practical?

I have been reading many reviews accross the internet and decided upon the iAudio U2. The USB2.0, 5band Eq, surrround effects, FM tuner and fantastic reviews won it for me - I ordered it yesterday.. - plus with the machine you get the protective case - something essential to me as can be a bit careless and heavy handed :)

    Cheers again.

Would you really have to try arsenic to know that it is poisonous and that it would kill you? I don't think so...

Humans have rather amazing cognitive abilities and this includes modelling imaginary situations and then weighing up the benefits and the risks. I am intelligent enough to understand the iPod Shuffle without actually having to use one. Thank you very much.

Ok... up to you intelligent man

"apart from play tracks in everything but the order you want it"...??????

I recommend the Shuffle to any one who wants a MP3 player with great sound, easy to use, and doesn't need a screen.
It focus on music and not useless features, it's flash not HD, and free from vibration problems.
Doesn't even need batterys or AC adapters.

If it as to have a screen so look at another model... iPOD nano, or another brand.

    Sessen Ryu

If you need FM radio and sceen I would also recommend that Sony you mencioned...
Don't know about sound quality, not a good experience with the Sony NW-H75...
    But i like the 507 model! :)

The Shuffle acts exactly as a flash drive, I use it for that too, the 507 does too, doesn't it?

Just a few things you might find interesting; this thread was started by a user that actually had a list of requirements. An FM tuner was one of them - so there the Shuffle already fell out of the race and was not even worth the electricity it took to light up those pixels.

To my knowledge there are no flash players with radios and no screens - so once again - the Shuffle was inappropriate.

Thirdly, you might be surprised, but the iPod has many more bells and whistles than the HD5. It has calenders, games, clocks...you name it - all the HD5 does is play music. Full Stop.

The above paragraph is slightly off topic, but it is just to illustrate to you that the bells and whisltes argument is probably not the best one to use when you are trying to sell an Apple music player.

Falp - yeah, I was very close to going for the Sony, I love the look of it, but I figured that I'm not really buying it to look at.

Yeah, the Sony is flash, but loads of people have complained about having to use SonicStage, and further, using the player on more than one PC has caused problems. Whereas the iAudio is a lot simplier - just drag and drop, also quicker as it uses USB2. (not to mention the sound processing capabilities) :)

I admit I din't see the FM requirement... my fault... maybe I'm not perfect... ;)
No I must try to be perfect, and start to find the calendars, games, clocks... in my iPOD Shuffle.

    Sessen Ryu

What iAudio did you buy? I would like to see look of it! :)

Just to clarify; I never suggested the Shuffle had calanders, games, clocks etc. If I had meant the Shuffle I would have typed the word Shuffle - therefore I only said the iPod.

I've been PM'd asking what the player is like, so figured I would reply publicly.

I'm a very happy chappy :D It looks gorgeous, a lot smaller than on the 'telly' :) It sounds great (with standard earphones, tho i'll probably get some better ones anyway) - has LOADS of features & options on it (including 'shuffle! ;) ) Really easy to use and navigate around the menu's.

Transfering music onto it is really fast, & no need to install any software, just plug it in to any machine, drag and drop - done

Haven't listened properly to the radio yet, so can't comment on that - nor have i recorded from the radio or tried voice recording...

Thanks again to sirlukas for suggesting the player :smashin:
