Well I have been offered a refund for my lg plasma which was a joke with image retention.
I hear that LCD don't really get this?
I'm looking for a tv that is 50 inch plus but can't find an LCD that is
    In my budget.
also is LCD a step down from plasma?
    Pros and cons?
if anyone knows where I can get a large LCD please let me know.
Also thanks to insanity for advising me with the problems I was having.

    Thanks Kate x

Yes, Sharp do 70 inch models. Beyond 50 inches though, plasma offers better value for money as picture quality of LCD doesn't keep up after 46 inches, whereas plasma is the opposite and can improve with bigger sizes.

    Ok thanks.
It's just my recent experience with plasmas leave a lot to be desired
    With image retention problems.
My budget is not huge so cant go to high up in the market.
insanity said samsung are good for image retention so migh try them for a 50 inch plasma
    And Panasonic too.

    Disagree mate.
    I owned the 65"VT50 now a 55"W905 led tv.
The W905 while not 100% perfect (what is) is a cracking tv and is the only led tv that I've demoed that impressed me.
Each tech has its pros ans cons but imo Sony have done themselves proud this year.

    @Katie.
Is there anywhere local that had the Sammy on display? Might be worth having a look on the littlewoods website making a few notes of models you like the look off and go out and have a dabble. :)

    Pic was found online ;)
There's a few regulars who post who know I love a good bacon butty and it turned into a bit of on running joke. :D

Will look around and see what's what for a 50" tv.

Wow that does look good bang for the buck.
it's ok because the sun doesn't shine directly on the tv apart from dusk when I can adjust the blinds anyway.
might have to order that tomorrow then.
The old ones getting picked up Tuesday so hopefully I might be able to get this on next day delivery so I'm not without a tv!
Do you think I should take out cover on it? £7.50 a month with currys.
Might be an idea because my little girl will be walking in no time! Lol

Thanks so much for finding that for me. So kind x

If the extra cover covers accidental damage then it maybe worth it just incase.
I know my lad is trying to walk, stands up using the tv unit and touches the screen.
I'm getting my tv wall mounted to prevent small fingers from bashing the screen.

I think we need a cage for our tv's or kids lol

Haha yes sometimes I feel that way when I'm getting woken up at 4am!
I'm gonna be putting the new one on the wall but might be moving the lounge about so not sure where I'm putting it yet.
Should be on the wall before she can get to it anyway.
if she does break it she will pay when she gets a job someday ha

Id not personally pay for extra cover, def not Currys, if you do read then read ALL the small print.
Check your rights under SOGA and speak to your house insurance provider about accidental damage.

As for the set it seems popular, worth reading the owners thread.;)

My brother has two littleuns, had a free warranty with his set but its named on his house insurance anyway just in case a stray toy hits it, its a big target at 65" lol. I never worked for Currys but have sold consumer electronics like TVs and fridges etc, we got bonuses for selling "after care" the product quite frankly wasn't worth the money, to the point that after reading the small print I no longer 'pushed' it on people. Warranties are different and some will pay for the extra reassurance, just check you are paying for something that you a. Need and b. That isnt simply something you have for free.

What's your budget? You can get plenty of 50" and 55" LED-LCDs

Depends how much you want to spend, on big screens, plasma generally cheaper per inch

£530 will get you a Panasonic from Currys

Buy PANASONIC Viera TX-L50EM6B 50" LED TV | Free Delivery | Currys

Not sure how it compares to the above, but £500 from JL - no problem finding one of those in London

    http://www.johnlewis.com/panasonic-viera-tx-l50b6b-led-hd-1080p-tv-50-inch-with-freeview-hd/p519355

Upping to £750 won't actually get you anything else, other than maybe a better plasma

An LED TV is just an LCD TV but with individual LEDs for the lighting, originally LCDs had 1 giant backlight but having multiple LEDs for lighting allows the picture to be more dynamic, lighter in bright areas of an image and darker in shadowy areas of an image. Plasma TVs don't have a backlight, the actual plasma produces it's own light when it's given an electrical charge.

    Thanks for explaining.
Well I think I'd be better sticking with plasma at this size.

I would stick with plasma if you want the best PQ, the other types of displays mentioned are not as close!

    Good luck.
