    Hi all.....great site

Having spent over 3 hours reading through posts I have narrowed my search for a new TV down to the following LCD's

Tosh 37WLT66 - £760 fro JL but out of stock at the mo

    Sammy LE37R74BDX - £880 on Amazon

    Sony KDL40U2000U - £900 from Argos

I know I should consider a Plasma but am worried about puple snakes of the Panny and weight for my stand etc.

I need to keep this at 40"...prefer 37" or below if possible due to space.
    Max budget about £900 ish.

Can anyone recommend a 37" Plasma for this budget. The set will mostly be used for TV...DVD's etc

Many thanks all...and a Happy New Year for tonight !!!

Yet another query from a person who only wants to watch DVD and other SD material on a panel.

Save your money and buy a CRT, enjoy the healthy bank balance and a better picture!

My sincere apologies...I will ensure I buy a sky HD box to help justify the price of the TV....let me guess...you drive a skoda? maybe a diesel. You always clear your plate and buy all your clothes from Primark???
    Otherwise your argument is flawed.

Apols again but I didn't realise only watching SD and DVD was a crime.
I prefer the look of flat screens and simply want to future proof.

Thanks for helping me justify myself !!!:smashin:

I think the only thing would try and persuade you to do is hang on, save more money and buy something bigger and better than those on your list.

Most of them are now 'old' models and have since been replaced. Out of the plasmas that are close to your price range I'd stay clear of the Panny PX60, it seems to have developed a worryingly large amount of issues judging from the posts on the forum.

My advice, save, wait and buy a Pio 427XD

I don't think he meant it as a criticism. He's in the same position himself from the threads I've seen, which is why he started a thread asking if people with plasmas thought SD looked as good as their old CRTs.

And assuming Panny fix the purple snakes, then I'd wait & see and go for one of them. Very good at SD.

    I think he did ;)

Been there before on other threads and pretty outspoken on the subject by all accounts-

Worth checking out the thread choddo2006 refers to though Biffa B its a great thread with some interesting comments. As i see it the majority on there seem to suggest SD can be as good as on a crt but the thread is still young. Will it be enough to change Loobsters mind given the comments made above? Will be interesting to follow and see.

For your budget a 37 or 42 PX60 is by far the best image you will get, purple snakes or not.

:) Maybe you're right. Well, he's welcome to come round to my gaff & see what a quality SD image you can get. He'll need a 4pack of Kronies to get in though.

    Aaarggggghhhhh

I thought I was sorted but now I have doubts!!!

Bottom line - my CRT is too small and I want a flat screen so it's gonna happen.

Dumb question - will the 37" Purple snake Panny sit on a standard Glass TV unit?

Is the Puple snake thing liklely to be resolved?
Thousands of posts under the PX60 page now and no end in sight!!!

This is driving me mad....I sepnt less time deciding on a buying my house ***.

I thought I'd better jump in here. :)

Firstly, I didn't mean anything I said earlier as a criticism, so please nobody take offence. I was merely expressing my surprise at the large number of people wanting a HD panel who have no HD sources and don't look like having any for quite a while. It really seems to be a lot of peeps right now.

Hey how long ago was it I made those outrageous comments quoted in post 11? :rotfl:

As you can see from my new thread, I've found a TV where the SD is more than acceptable - no it's not even close to my Sony Wega CRT - but it's acceptable. I'm taking the missus back to the same shop at the weekend to see what she thinks.

For the record, I do have a diesel - but it's NOT a Skoda. :D
