My Panasonic Viera TH-50V30P lasted over a week before a thin dark line splits the screen, it was picked up by Panasonic and after 3 weeks, I was told they are replacing the display unit and this should solve the problem!

I was under the impression that you can not repair the plasma, a bit sceptical of Panasonic now
Any one with similar occurrence or experience
    Thanks

there are lots of components within a plasma that can be replaced or repaired, PSU video chassis tuner components etc etc the plasma glass cant be repaired but can be replaced if you have only had it a week before this happened i would want a new one not a repair, or a refund, but having accepted the repair you may have gone too far down the road. It will be replaced or repaired tho and i assume you know the screens limitatations re HD material

Thanks hornydragon for your comment, unfortunately my dealer claimed he can not replace the Viera without sending it to Panny for assessment, so after reading your reply I guess I should have been more firm with them

Unfortunately also, I don't know the limitation reg HD , in fact I was driven by the specs ,saying it is HD ready
    Thanks

the TH-50PV30 is not HD ready it has no HDMI/DVI input and component input is not compatible with 720p it is the least HD ready 50" possible, see the trading standards sticky at the top of the general chat forum, get a refund and buy an HD ready plasma 50PV500 is "HD ready" as is Fujitsu P50XHA40US and the PIo 505XDE

Panasonic do not come into the equation at all your sale of contract is with the supplying retailer. I would personally have demanded a brand new set or a full refund there and then which you are entitled to especially as the unit failed in only one week.

That HDMI board is for the PANEL only plasma, do you have a TH-50PV30 or a TH-50PHW7? very very different beasts the PV30 has no card slots and PHW7 has 3!!!
Also HDMI board is not HDMI 1.1 Compliant (cant accept 720p or 1080i @ 50Hz)
