    Hi all,

It is obvious from many reviews that the DAVS550, 880's lack in the bass department. Can the sub-woofer be replaced with a decent one? if yes what would people recommend I try out.

    There's (spec'd) 100W driving the subwoofer. I don't know how
large your room is, but it's certainly enough for my purposes.
Living in an apartment (you might say flat) I definitely worry about
    the downstairs neighbors complaining.

I would tend to believe if this isn't enough power driving the bass
you may want to consider something other than a packaged home
    theater system.

I'm not enamored with Sony these days, having been bitten by
the subtitles firmware bug, but now that it's fixed other than
the bad taste about the fight for repair I have no complaints.

    Hi Sam,

Thanks for the reply. The room I will have it in will not be huge so I guess I will get away with it. I went for the Sony 880 as much for the style as for the great reviews the 550 had.

I was just wondering if I end up being dissapointed with the bass is there a possibility I could change the sub-woofer.

hi mike, the problem u have is the sub on the sony is passive, which relies on the amp to drive it, the sony amp is quite weedy in terms of power, if the back of the amp has a sub output u may replace it with a active sub, i would go for mj acoustics pro 50 proper base goes down to 15 hz proper base. hope this is of some use.
