Can someone point me in the direction of info on how de-interlacers vary?

I'm just curious about how the dedicated de-interlacers i.c.s do a better job than the integrated dvd decoding + de-interlacers i.c.s built into dvd players?

What exactly do the best ones do right and the lower end ones do wrong?

How would it manifest itself onscreen if a de-interlacer was designed poorly?

Most of the de-interlacers seem to eliminate jaggies successfully.

Can anyone give me examples of hardware fitted with the very best de-interlacers and the very worst de-interlacers?
