If the reason you're considering the PQ6000 is DivX from USB, I'd get the PS3000. When you get a Blu-ray player later, it'll probably have USB and DivX, and they are usually easier to upgrade (or even replace) to support new formats etc.

The PQ6000 also has better sound and SD picture quality. The PS8000 has a full 1080p resolution. Overall the PS3000 will give you a slightly better blu-ray experience as long as you're less than 10ft away or so, the PQ6000 will give you better sound and better SD performance, and the USB features as you say

Don't know if this is of interest anymore, but for example LG and Samsung have players with USB.

hi trik thanks for the answer, the number 1 reason i choose the LG tv i bought tonight the PQ6000 was for the reason of it accepting the usb pen movies,

i am a huge huge huge movie watcher an i have far too many films real and copys so im quite excited about geting this new tv, i know its not full full hd but that doesnt bother me as ive never had HD before at all

atm im looking at the Sony BDP S350 Blu ray i might purchase this

You'll struggle to see the difference between 720p and 1080p at this size anyway, don't worry yourself about it

thanks i spent a good few hours juggling between 2 tv's both LG one had the usb slot and 1 didnt, but it was 1080i

either way i have now paid for the LG 42PQ6000

my current tv altho not hd at all, but still 42" i hope too sell for £300+
and use the same wall backet,

so this new tv costing £520 will only cost me 220 i hope :)

Hi,
For anyone with the same question I've just bought the 50PS3000 and found there is a hack for enabling DivX playback.
LGPS3000 DIVX Mod - boards.ie

Enabling the service menu meant holding down "OK" on the remote and the TV for several seconds until the password screen came up.
Enter 0000 and the menu comes up.
Select option 1.
On the next menu, move down to "Media Player" where it says "EMF-PM" and scroll right to change to "EMF-PMM".
Change NOTHING else and exit everything.

I just tried it, everything seems fine. Use at your own risk etc.

I would also like to say the Divx playback on most tv's is pretty basic and in my opinion crap. I've played a few divx files on a friend's LG 50PQxxx.. and it's pretty poor, very slow scrubbing (frwd/rewind) etc....due to the small amount of computing power they have.

If you want divx playback use a xbox360 / ps3 or a stand alone player..... these also tend to support things like subtitles files and such....

(i use a laptop with XBMC [xbox media center for windows].. which is VERY slick and supports virtually every single type of movie file out there...)

As highlighted before, if watched under 10ft, the PS/1080p will be of ZERO benefit even on bluray, even with 20/20 vision

The killer between the two though is the frameless 1-piece glass front element on the PQ.

The 50PQ6000 is now £610 vs £700 for the 50PS3000.

A real no-brainer that one.

Hi Nick,

Not seen the discussion where if viewed from UNDER 10ft there would be NO difference between 1080p and 720p, as you’ve stated above.

From what I have read, (see the link below), if viewing a 50in screen, to actually get the benefit of 1080p you have to sit at 10ft or CLOSER to the screen.

It’s only when you sit OVER 10ft away from a 50in screen that you can no longer perceive the full benefit of 1080p vs 720p.

So in summary, if sitting at 10ft or CLOSER, you WILLnotice a difference between 1080p and 720p.

Please link me to anything that says the contrary, I would love to see it.

That's right, there must have been a mistake in typing from him there. Keep in mind though that is roughly where the difference starts to become noticeable, you don't actually get the full benfit until you're more like 7ft away
