Can Mordaunt Short Alumni 2 make most of my 4k sound set up? These are about 8 years old now, in excellent condition. Just upgraded my kit and wondered if these speakers are ok to leave alone. To go with a Sony 1080 possibly.

I have 2 front speakers, 1 front centre speaker, 2 rear speakers in the corner and 2 middle speakers for 7.2 then the sub. Can this do Atmos and DTS: X at all? The middle rear speakers are on the floor I can put them high up at the back on the shelf near the middle still. I can't place any speakers on my ceiling sadly.

By all means keep them if you find they sound great. For 5.1.2 you would place one pair (surrounds backs from 7.1) to front wall / side wall (front stage) high up under ceiling aimed towards listening position.

Sony 1080 is rather expensive at 429£ for 2017 receiver. I would try to get Denon X2500H for 299£ (Richer Sounds / Peter Tyson).

Check these two pictures of front & side wall heights:
