Can I use pre-amp variable line out with active speakers with own volume control (Dynaudio Xeo 6)?

I've just acquired a second hand pair of Xeo 6 speakers. The issue with virtually all active speakers is that they don't accommodate headphones, so my next step is to plug my sources into a pre-amp/streamer with headphone facility, and plug that into the Dynaudio Connect box.

I already have a Marantz NR1200 receiver so I was considering using that as the pre-amp as it has pre-outs (RCA line out). However, these are variable level and controlled by the Marantz's volume control. The Xeo 6 has its own volume control, so ideally I need a fixed line level to feed them.

I could just connect the devices up and see what happens but I'm worried about overloading the Xeo 6s. Do I just set the Marantz to a low volume level and continue to use the Xeo volume control? How does that affect the headphone volume? As far as I can see there's no way to fix the line out level from the Marantz.

If there's any risk, or it's a fiddly workaround process, I'll just sell the Marantz and get a pre-amp with a fixed line output.

Why not plug all your sources into the Marantz and use the volume there? Unless someone in the household is likely to blow the speakers up set them to max and us the Marantz volume.

Yes, you're right. I just discovered that you can fix the Xeo volume level high to accommodate a source with its own volume control. Problem solved.

From manual: "Fixing the volume: You can set the speaker to a higher volume using the function to fix the volume. This setting also remains in effect in standby mode.

If a signal source is connected with its own volume control, you have the option to change the output volume across a broad range with the signal source.

To fix the volume: ► Point the remote control at the speaker and press MUTE for at least 2 seconds. To undo fixing, press one of the two volume buttons."

I have the same problem with my sound bar from my TV the pre amp in the TV is just factory fixed to low at the optical output jack. the only thing I could do is purchased a small box from Amazon with optical out to head phone jack out or R L RCA plugs out and then another small amplifier box connected to that with a small 5 volt power plug that comes with it and a volume control on it with these 2 items connected and adjusted it solved the problem . another tip some have tried a blue tooth amplifier , well it wont work Good Luck
