Can I use my contract sim in a sim free phone?

Well I dropped my Xperia Z3 last week for the second time (idiot I know) - so now, rather than buying my contract out (12 months to run), i'm looking to buy another smart phone but sim free.

The phone in question is a Google Nexus 6P - handset only is £449.

Now i'm on Three, and while they're both sim free, is it really as simple as swapping the sim from my Z3 into the 6P?

Yep! So long as the phone is unlocked to the 3 network, you are good to go.

It says on googles own site -

Nexus 6P is an unlocked phone and works on major carrier networks

Though I can't find anything specifically on which networks are / aren't supported.

3 is slightly different in that you require a 3G capable phone, so some GSM/GPRS only phones and sims won't work.

You won't have an issue with the Nexus though. It is 3G / 4G capable and works on the correct frequencies and protocols.
