Can I move external HD from PS4 to PS4 Pro to access games

So I have upgraded to a PS4 pro. I have a large external SSD with all my games on it. I know I can move it from one PS4 to another if I am logged into same account and access games but does this work if I take my external HD and plug it into a new PS4 pro?

Last time I tried to install a hard drive from one PS4 to another it made you format it and I read somewhere it because there is a unique ID that is created during the formatting of the drive to stop people cloning drives.
