Can I buy a portable dvd player in the States and use it back in the UK? I know I would need a multi-region dvd player but what about the differences in broadcast standards - ie we are PAL and the USA is NTSC. ? Does this have anything to do with buying a portable dvd player??

Most portable players play both NTSC and PAL so you should be ok in that respect. I think the only thing you need to worry about is the power supply unit.

It has a screen and so you have to be aware of the format - unfortuantly whilst most things available in the UK are able to do PAL or NTSC these days in the states it is much more common for them to be NTSC only.

As an obvious thing you may also need to buy is a new transformer if it has built in rechargable battery or if you want to run it from the mains ever
