    Hello!

Bit of a newbie question maybe ... but can external (USB-2 / Firewire) drives be as good as internal ones, or are they limited by bandwidth?

Also, what is the maximum length of the connecting cable?

I ask because I want to put my shiny new HTPC up high ... too high to reach the drive.

    Ta!

AFAIK on playback DVD drives are so slow they don't tax USB 1 let alone USB 2 or Firewire, you'll not notice the difference. :) Yes, if you unlock their ripping speed then I suspect some of the faster ones may glitch with USB 1 but no way with they peak bandwidth on USB 2 or 1394.
