I ask as I have a perfectly working hitachi 42pd3000 plasma.

Can i get a sky hd box when they're out and connect the components to my screen?

It has 1024X1024 screen the same as the new ones.

does it support 720p at 50 hz and 1080i at 50hz

either on component or HDMI/DVI and does it support HDCP encryption on DVI/HDMI?

It will work with first generation Sky HD boxes for non-copy protected content IF it supports 50Hz HD video inputs via its analogue HD component inputs. Not clear if it would have to support both 1080/50i and 720/50p - as it may be that the Sky box will cross-convert and allow you to run at a single output resolution.

For full compatibility it will need 50Hz support via an HDMI or DVI digital input with HDCP encryption.
