Need some help from all you experts please...

Just become the proud owner of Panasonic TH42PW6, Pioneer VSX812 amp, and KEF 5005.1 speakers.
Have come across the dreaded Sky+ lip-sync problem that's been well documented in this forum I have now discovered.

Have spoken to my dealer who will be prepared to swap amp for one which does have option for an audio delay. Any suggestions for the amp guys ... have had a good look today and at similar price to VSX812 I found the Denon 1804. Their website states it has delay option but not how long you can make the delay (anyone have one of these and know this?).

Is this a good option, or any other suggestions for an amp all very gratefully received.

    The Baldster

    Hi

The Denon 1804 doesn't have the Master Audio Delay that you need to correct Lip-Sync problems, it just has the speaker distance/delay times for Dolby/DTS etc to ensure that sounds arrive at the speakers correctly. In the Denon range you need to be looking at the 3803, 3805, A1SRA for the Master Audio Delay feature.

What sort of budget are you looking at spending? The Audio Delay feature still isn't found on a lot of Amps/Receivers. Both the Harmon Kardon AVR 630 and AVR 430 have it. Also the Pioneer AX5i and Yamaha DSPAX750SE.

Atm, Yamaha RX-V650S has also audio-delay and is definitely cheapest at 460pound at www.avland.co.uk

Yamaha 1400 and 2400 has audio delay as well.

    Baldster,

Too bad that you didn't caught when Unbeatable were doing the new Yam's significantly cheaper for a few days, only a week ago or so, then they raised it to avland level. It could have been a pricing error. One member got a 650 or 750 for the low price.

It depends on how quick you need a Yam. You could hold out for a month perhaps and hopefully the bigger etailers will stock them and then the price might drop. But it is a gamble, as it could still mean these prices as perhaps stocks are not plenty, or the demand is extremely high = no point lowering the price.

I've just ordered the 650 from AV Land - hopefully arriving on Monday. This does appear to be the most economical way of resolving the annoying lip synch issue!!
I'll report on the outcome as soon as it arrives.
