Just wondering, if i went into a store wanting to buy some 601 S3 would they be able to lower the price (I notice they're the same price everywhere)?

And if so would it be normal practise to try and get them at a lower price? I say that as in you wouldnt go into currys and try to get a tv cheaper

Best I have had is 10% but that was partly because of regular custom from a dealer in Milton Keynes. You should be able to get something off but not much!
I decided to buy second hand after that, much better discounts and generally the people that buy that sort of kit look after it.

    Cheers

Thanks Tone, i know people also get discounts when buying other stuff at the same time.

I'm assuming B&W tell the shop how much they have to price it at? Still, 10% of £250 is £25 which aint too bad!

From my experience the prices are pretty fixed however shops are usually willing to throw in accessories with the speakers (£180 of cables with my 805s's)

    You can only ask.....

Where would you suggest looking for second hand equipment? Is there a specific forum where people would sell, or is it just a case of looking on ebay and local newspapers?

B&W speakers (and Kef, for that matter) are less amenable to haggling than pretty much anyone else.

By all means try,but the best you're likely to get,as with others above,is a few bits of wire, which is about what was offered to me when buying my 805s.....this sort of thing is by no means unusual,as many of the major UK companies do the same, and Linn can be added to the list of non-discounting manufacturers.

There is always plenty of stuff on ebay, but also on the AVFORUMS classified section, also consider putting in a wanted advert, I have seen quite a few 600 Series 3 speakers for sale in both locations. learnt to be a little patient but got what I wanted, and as per usual check em before taking them away.
Not to scare you but my 602's - when I purchased them (£150) I had no chance to check them, but when I got home I found the tweeter on one of them not working, so called up the seller who came to me the next day and listened for himself. He refunded me £40 which is what it cost me for a replacement tweeter. Sweet. I sold the 601's S2 (in maple) for £140 that the 602's replaced :smashin:

    Cheers

    Just found this....

    http://www.bw-secondhand.com/index.php

Could be worth a try, although dealers are moving their speakers around much more then an owner so they may be a bit more damaged!

Best way of getting money off anything is pay in cash. Prices in shops are guides - no price is fixed, no matter what anyone says. Everyone is flexible. I've got as much as 25% off listed prices for various things, by being persistant and taking cash. Most people don't ask in the UK, we just slavishly pay whatever price the shop displays. All prices are negotiable. I generally find that the more expensive the item, the easier it is to get money off (mark-ups are higher). Have a word with the the shop manager, its always worth a punt. Second hand shops are much easier to sway with cash. Just get it out and fan yourself with it in front of them.

Another tip: If you want to buy several things at once, like an amp and speakers, ask the shop manager what deal he'll give you if you buy both from the shop. Most shop managers will wander off and come back with a deal price.

I saw some B&W 602S3 speakers for sale in a hifi shop in Chester, they were always £300, but I thought I would ask anyway, If I wanted the ones from out of the shop window the man wanted £160! He plugged them into a Rotel amp and Rega deck for a listen, and I bought them with a two year guarantee. I have not regretted buying them.

I was very lucky to find on ebay two users selling b&w speakers who had treated them better than there kids. So i managed to get 600 s3 for 110 and 125 for lcr60.

Others though have not been so lucky with there speakers from ebay.
